National Preventative Health Strategy

The NPHP is now available on the Internet here. The strategy recognises the importance of car dependence on obesity. It identifies the need to create communities with play spaces for children, cycle paths linking home with work and schools.
It identifies the role taxation can have in reducing the attractiveness of unhealthy choices. It identifies the need to conduct research into tax incentives to support the national active living framework. Included in this are strategies to replace car based subsidies in the workplace (free car parking, novated lease, fringe tax benefits) with walking, cycling and public transport supportive inducements.
Lets hope this results in a change to our current car supporting tax systems to create an environment more supportive of active transport.
