Visible

I was cycling along Annerley Road this week and was forced onto the narrow footpath past Dutton Park Station. Thanks to the mesh fencing I could not see the pedestrian exiting the station onto the pathway. Fortunately I stopped to take a photo or we would have collided.

This got me thinking about the now common use of this mesh all over the place. So many of our bridges and overpasses are surrounded by cages and mesh fencing that you can barely see through. Our walkers and cyclists miss out on views and often feel caged. Can we have safety without needing to obscure views?

I hope that the Storey Bridge never has fences installed along the path. It would be a sad day for one of the most beautiful rides in Brisbane.
