Capacity of a pathway

What is the capacity of a pathway to carry cyclists and pedestrians? That is a question I am often asked. Vicroads Cycle Note 21 (June 2010) provides a very easy to use guide on capacity of shared paths. Queensland will be launching their own version soon.

Austroads has guidance of determining the Level of Service (LOS) for pathways. This can also be used to assess the capacity of a pathway.

Thanks Athol. Interesting conclusion ".. that the capacity of this path exceeds its demand". Interesting to note that a 25% increase in both modes would move the intersection closer to the boarder for a 3m/1.5m configuration. So it would be useful to include the timeframe that the path's capacity is anticipated to exceed demand..
